sick as a dog

One of the cover stories today on People magazine was about Ellen Degeneres' dog adopting fiasco. Of course, of all the articles I could choose to see on the cover of People, anything but Britney Spears pretty much tops my list.

Seeing that story is what prompted my metaphor. I am, indeed, as sick as a dog, although I really have no idea what that's supposed to mean. Perhaps it's like happy as a clam - which actually used to be happy as a clam at high tide. The second makes sense; the first does not. Perhaps there's an ending to the 'sick as a dog' phrase that I don't know that would make it make more sense. Or make me make more sense, but that isn't likely to happen given how many drugs are currently pumping through my system.

My coworker kindly provided DayQuil, but I'm a Tylenol/NyQuil fan myself, so my mom is getting me some on her way home from church tonight. I can't wait to down some nasty medicine and drift off into la-la land. I do not see how I'm supposed to continue to work and move and then go back to work while I'm sick, but my sick hours don't start accumulating until the first of the year. And I wouldn't want to squander them this early on anyway. But still... the misery, she had no company, so my coworkers infected me, and now I too am miserable.

Randomness

Today, I have no rants. I have no new crafty things. I am simply up two hours before I wanted to be so I would be available when the air conditioning service people come. Apparently, if you don't get the aircon serviced, dust and water built up, then the water starts gushing from the unit and you no longer have any a/c. Not a desirable outcome by any stretch of the imagination in Singapore.

However, last night, when I could have slept on the couch, as their father is gone again to spend the night with his girlfriend (I didn't wash the dishes immediately after dinner - shh!), I decided on my eensy weensy little non-air conditioned space because I am now sick. Not sure with what yet, not sure how bad, but I've felt this feeling in my throat way too many times not to know when I'm sick. So, breakfast will consist of tea with honey and hot cereal.

I've been spending much of my spare time job hunting, a task for which I have no special affection. As I have little experience (education, one year as a legal assistant) and an advanced degree, I am over-qualified for the positions for which I have experience, and under-experienced for the positions for which I am qualified. So far, I've simply been looking into whatever I can get. Job hunting = lame.

Sick Kitty Update

The second visit cost €56. *sigh* And this does not include the health certificate checkup this Friday to get him back to the US. He has been fine, if a little bored since he went on the antibiotics. The bored part has nothing to do with the being sick part, but all the other cats moved to Canada on Saturday, so he keeps wandering around the house begging me to play with him or pay attention or anything. Last night, we played with the blue feather toy for awhile.

I also have good news to report - today I don't feel like garbage! :) Last Thursday, I missed work because I had no voice, went to work on Friday, with the help of my small pharmacy I brought with me, then came home, took Caesar to the vet and went to sleep. Saturday and Sunday was spent in an orgy of self pity and television viewing; at least five little bags of tissues gave their lives along with a roll of toilet paper and a significant amount of my facial moisturizer. Monday I missed work again, made it out of the house for my one hour of Farsi instruction, and was so wiped I came straight back home. Today I am back at work, feeling much better, although slightly annoyed that I showed up for the first lesson and didn't teach until the fourth. Because I no longer have internet at home (which made Saturday and Sunday just that much more fun!), today is also my catch-up-on-internet-activities-day. On to more witty observations about fascinating happenings in the 'heart of Europe!'
